Self-Guided Stephen King Tour| Maritimes, Day 8

9/11/19 - Wednesday

We started the morning with breakfast at The Grind House where I had the most delicious Impossible sandwich and a Peanut Butter Chocolate specialty drink.
The Grind House Bangor
While in Bangor, I knew that I absolutely wanted to swing by Stephen King's House, so that was our first stop after breakfast. It's apparently not uncommon for fans to take photographs out front.

When we got there, there was only one other car. As we went to walk across the street, the lady in the car flagged me over and told me that the house next door was actually his library.
There are a few sites around Bangor that have served as inspiration for his novels, so we selected a few to visit. The Thomas Hill Standpipe served as the inspiration for the haunted and dangerous water tower in "It," and it's said King wrote much of the book on a park bench in the small park at the base of the tower.

Mount Hope Cemetery was featured in "Pet Cemetery", and it is one of the nation's oldest garden cemeteries.

The Paul Bunyan Statue was featured in "It" and mentioned in "Insomnia".

We stopped at Dorman's Dairy Dream in Thomaston and tried a Down East Sundae Shake, a small thick shake with a one-scoop sundae on top with one topping and whipped cream or nuts.

We decided to swing by Boothbay Harbor for a dose of nostalgia. We visited here on our New England Road Trip about a decade ago.

We grabbed a Pesto Tomato and Cheese sandwich at Blue Moon Cafe.

We were on a casual mission to find the little moose cafe we'd eaten at on our previous visit, and I think we found its replacement, the Red Cup Coffeehouse.

We sought out The Holy Donut and tried the coffee cake, triple berry, and the dark chocolate sea salt. The dark chocolate was by far the best, but we really enjoyed these donuts overall.

We reserved a room at the Marriott Residence Inn (Boston North Shore/Danvers) that was about a half hour outside of Boston. They were having a social mixer in the lobby, so we filled up on salad, chips and salsa, spanakopita, and baklava.
I really like how spacious the Residence Inn rooms are. They're essentially sizable studio apartments.
