Jerash & Ajloun Castle| Jordan, Day 7
Day 7 - Sunday, October 8, 2023
We headed to Jerash, one of the best preserved Roman cities in the whole world. Our guide informed us that a lot of what we would see in Jerash is from the second century after Christ, the most prosperous time in the Roman empire. Jerash is a popular city that is internationally renowned for its preservation and restoration of prominent Roman structures. We started at Hadrian's Arch, which was built in 129 AD to greet Emperor Hadrian during his visit. It was very hot out today, so we were moving a bit more slowly than usual.
Next, we went to Ajloun Castle, a 12th Century fortress built under the rule of the sultan and military leader Saladin. It is set on top of Mount 'Auf and provides good views of the Jordan Valley.
We had a cheese sandwich for lunch and later bid farewell to Khaled since this would be his last day as our tour guide. He had made a kind of awkward speech the previous day about him not receiving a high enough tip, so everyone on the bus had discussed what would be appropriate for him and the driver.
