Wednesday Weekend Wind-Up: Festival of Lights
We went out to eat way more than usual this weekend. We started with delicious Mexican food at Frida's; I splurged and got a margarita with Mezcal this time around. TBH, I preferred the regular and ended up swapping with Francisco.
We knew we were going out Saturday evening, so we thought we'd start with lunch downtown at BurgerFi. I was excited to see that they were the first national burger chain to serve the Beyond Burger. We first tried this over the summer, and you can watch a video about our experience here. Our burger was delicious. So good. We also got the Cry+Fry (Onion Rings + Hand-Cut Fries), and we had them made "urban style", which means topping them with Parmesan, herb, and garlic aioli. I didn't love the onion rings, but the fries were great. We started our meal with an Oh My Chocolate Custard Concrete, which features Chocolate Custard, Chocolate Sauce, Brownies, Chocolate Chips + Sprinkles. This was both a good and bad decision. Good because we had a long wait before our order was ready - I think there was a large order that they were working on prior to ours; bad because we were pretty full by the time our food came out. If you are a chocolate lover, I think you will love this - definitely chocolate overload!
The main event of our weekend was attending the PNC Festival of Lights at the Cincinnati Zoo. The zoo was actually reserved for my employer for the evening, so we were able to visit this awesome venue prior to its official opening and at a fraction of the cost. A standard general adult admission ticket is ~$17.00 + parking costs $10.00. We got in for $6.00 a pop with free parking. Bargain.
While many of the animals were not in their outside exhibits, there were a few out. We'd gotten there early enough to use up the last of the daylight hours.
We really enjoyed walking around the zoo and checking out all the light displays.
We were hoping to see Fiona, our resident miracle hippo, but her exhibit wasn't open. Hmm, the zoo website says that temps must be 50 degrees or above with sunny skies for hippos to be outside, so she probably won't be out for the rest of the season. If you haven't followed any of Fiona's story, she was a premature baby hippo that was born six weeks before her due date, making her the smallest hippo to ever survive. Cincinnati Children's Hospital (where I used to work) even collaborated with the Zoo when Fiona became dehydrated. #TeamFiona
Here's hoping Francisco takes me to another light display before the end of the season. #Fingerscrossed

I drive under this walkway nearly everyday - I finally got to walk across it! |
I think the bear got a head start on hybernating |
