Orchard Apples Just Taste Better

When my brother came down for a weekend visit, we decided it was the perfect time to head to a local apple orchard and pick some fresh apples. A&M Farm Orchard just happened to be having a special where you-pick apples were $0.45 per lb.  I haven't been to pick apples at an orchard in years, but I remember the last time I went just positively gushing over how crisp and juicy the apples were - so much better than what you tend to find at the grocery stores!
It was a chilly, overcast day but we were determined to make the most of it and find some delicious apples. Along with the typical apples like Red Delicious and Granny Smith, they had some really unique varieties like Winesap and Mutsu. We sampled some here and there and liked pretty much every apple there was to try!
The trees varied in height and color, so we had our handy apple-picking tool to use in getting down the perfect apple.
We ended up with a pretty full bucket by the end of the day. Let me tell you, they may not all look as pretty as the shiny apples you will find in the produce section at Kroger, but they win hands-down when it comes to taste.
They also have pumpkins here, and Orchard Dog was at the ready to help us pick one out.
All in all, it was a good day at the orchard, and we've been munching on apples all week!  We made an apple crisp Monday, and I think we have enough left for one more apple-y dessert.
