January 2014 Ipsy Glam Bag

Ipsy is a beauty subscription service that sends subscribers a monthly Glam Bag with about 5 deluxe samples or full-sized products. The Glam Bag costs $10 monthly, and I have gotten some great values with this subscription - we're talking a value of greater than five times the cost! Ipsy was created by Youtube sensation Michelle Phan to help women around the world discover beauty products, and the company works with a variety of beauty brands.  To help identify the best products for you, there is a quiz you can take at any time to personalize your bags. You can also provide feedback on the monthly products you receive to potentially shape what you receive in the future - and you'll get ipsyPoints to use in exchange for products. Additionally, all of the featured products have special deals for the month if you decide to purchase a full-sized product. Please use this referral link if you're interested in subscribing to Ipsy.
January 2014 Ipsy Glam Bag
As usual my Ipsy bag arrived a little after the middle of the month. The January theme focused on 19 reasons to make it an amazing year and and amazing *you*.  The bag itself was cute, a medium blue with lighter blue cosmetic bottle decorations. But it has an awful plastic smell to it that I see that several subscribers have commented on on the website. I've tried washing this bag a few times now, and it smells probably like 75% better. There's a lingering chemically smell.  Honestly, I consider the bag to be just a bonus of this program anyway, and I don't even include its value as part of the total calculation, so I'm not terribly bothered by it.

Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair Deep Conditioning Mask, Sample Value: $4.95 [$26 for 5.25 oz, sample size: 1 oz]
This conditioner had a light almond fragrance. The consistency was good - a little on the thin side for a deep conditioner though. We are smack dab in the middle of winter, so a moisturizing product is more than welcome, and I thought this one worked decently. It left my hair feeling softer but a tad bit greasy at the roots.

Elizabeth Mott Smooth Shadow, $7.00 [$14.99 for 1.5 grams, sample size: .7 grams]
I received this shadow pencil in Pearl. It's a creamy off-white shade that applies easily for highlighting. I think it would be a little light for me to use on its own, but I found that it added nice dimension with a darker eyeshadow. While I first thought it was a plastic stick, it can indeed be sharpened.

Nourish Organic Lightweight Moisturizing Face Lotion, $6.47 [$21.99 for 1.7 oz, sample size: .5 oz]
This lightweight lotion had a faint rosewater scent. It absorbed fairly easily but left a bit of a film if you used an ample amount. It was an okay moisturizer but it seems better fit for warmer days since it's so lightweight.

MicaBeauty Tinted Lip Balm, ? [$30.00 for 4 grams, sample size unknown]
I received this balm in the Fiesta shade, which is a deep pink, almost plum color.  It's rather bold, but you can just lighten the application for a soft pop of color or layer on more for a deeper color if you're feeling adventurous.  While it's marketed as a balm, it really is rather drying, so I layered a lip gloss over it for added moisture.

Proactiv+ Mark Fading Pads, ~$15.90 [This is available as part of the Proactiv+ Complete Kit for $39.95 per month. I was also able to find it on Amazon for $19.87 for 5 pads. Sample size: 4 pads]
These pads had a medicinal smell and were rather drying. I didn't notice any visible improvements during the short time I tried them.
Proactiv+ Mark Fading Pads
Total Value ~$34.32
The value of this month's bag was roughly 3 times its cost. Are you interested in getting your own monthly Glam Bag?  Please use this referral link if you decide to check out Ipsy.
